The 3rd and final workshop for Get There Together supported volunteering project brought together everything that had been covered in the programme.
Get There Together potential volunteers |
The culmination of the project was a teamwork game where teams had to experience first hand some of the barriers our service users have when participating in activities. One person in the team wasn't able to walk, one wasn't able to speak, one not able to use their hands and another visually impaired. The team had to then work together to put up a tent, get everyone inside and then take the tent down again.
The groups clearly struggled at first but all completed the task really well in the end. During the reflection it was clear that the task had made the volunteers think in a very different way about how different peoples barriers can affect their enjoyment of activities. These emotions and experiences will be really useful when they start volunteering and will hopefully enable them to think outside the box when it comes to supporting individuals to be included.
